[ Album ] AKC registration doesn’t make a dog “better.” The purpose of the AKC is to keep records. I can find a great dog without AKC paperwork, but without some equivalent record keeping, how can I track down their ancestors, full and half siblings, and other relatives? The AKC registration is what lets me research more than just what I can see in this individual dog… how long did his parents live? Is there a likelihood that he carries PRA or is a cryptic merle? Do you know what the anti-AKC working nuts do? They make their own registries. AKC is just the largest, oldest, least corrupt, and most well-known of the all-breed registries. The point of registration isn’t to show that a dog is quality, but to let me connect that dog with it’s own records and the records of it’s relatives easily and without just taking the guys word for it on the dog’s breed and breeding
