Maine Coon Cat for Sell: What You Need to Know Before You Buy

Maine Coon Cat for Sell: Where Can You Actually Buy One?

You can buy a Maine Coon kitten through general classifieds sites, breed clubs, social media groups, or dedicated pet marketplaces such as PetzLover, and each option differs in how much registration and health information sellers provide upfront.

• General classifieds sites — Broad reach across many kinds of pets, but usually little vetting of health claims or breed accuracy.
• Breed clubs — Connect you with breeders focused specifically on Maine Coons, sometimes with a waiting list tied to upcoming litters.
• Social media groups — Fast and informal, but claims about health, age or registration are hard to confirm before you meet.
• Dedicated pet marketplaces (PetzLover) — Built specifically around pet breeds, so information about registration and background tends to be more complete than on general classifieds.

How do you search for a Maine Coon kitten on PetzLover?

Searching on PetzLover starts with filtering listings by breed, price, gender and location, then narrowing further by sorting newest first or by price.

1. Filter your search — Set the breed to Maine Coon, then narrow by price, gender and location to match what you want.
2. Sort the results — Order listings by newest, price low to high, price high to low, or most popular to compare options quickly.
3. Set an alert — New listings go live as soon as sellers publish them, so an alert tells you the moment a Maine Coon matching your criteria appears.
4. Contact the seller — Reach out directly through the listing to ask about health, registration and the kitten's background before you agree to anything.

What should you check before you buy a Maine Coon kitten?

Look closely at health records, living conditions and the kitten's behavior before you commit to anything.

• Health records — Ask for vaccination history and any vet checks done so far, plus any genetic testing common to the breed.
• Photos and video — Recent images of the kitten with its littermates and mother tell you more than one posed photo.
• Written description — A clear description of temperament, coat pattern and any health guarantees offered helps you compare kittens fairly.
• Timing — Ask when the kitten will actually be ready to leave its mother, since very young kittens often need more time before they can go home.

How much does a Maine Coon kitten cost?

Maine Coon kitten prices depend on pedigree, registration status, coat color and the breeder's location, so the fairest way to judge cost is to compare current listings rather than rely on a single number.

On PetzLover you can sort listings by price low to high or high to low, which is a quick way to see the current range for kittens matching what you want.

Registration status is one of the biggest swings in price: many kittens for sale are described as CFA or TICA registered, or as coming from registered parents, and that status often shifts the price bracket.

Should you buy a Maine Coon kitten locally or have one shipped?

Buying locally lets you meet the kitten and see its living conditions firsthand, which is the safest option if it's available to you.

• Meeting in person — Visit where the kitten is kept, meet the mother if possible, and watch how the kitten reacts to being handled.
• Long-distance purchases — If meeting in person isn't possible, ask for a live video call and look into the seller's history before sending any money.
• Deposits — Pay a deposit only through a traceable method, and be cautious of anyone who asks for full payment before you've seen real proof of the kitten.
• Red flags — A price far below what similar registered kittens are asking, refusal to share more photos, or a seller who won't answer direct questions are all reasons to slow down.

What paperwork and rules should you check before buying?

Before you buy, check the rules where you live around pet sales, and ask the seller for vaccination records and any registration papers that apply.

• Vaccination and health records — Ask for a written record of vaccinations and any vet visits so far.
• Registration papers — If the kitten is described as CFA or TICA registered, ask to see that paperwork, or ask about the parents' registration if the kitten hasn't been registered yet.
• Sales agreement — A simple written agreement covering price, any deposit, and what happens if the kitten becomes unwell soon after you bring it home protects both sides.
• Local rules — Check the rules where you live around pet sales, since requirements can differ from one place to another.

What's the difference between CFA and TICA registration?

CFA and TICA are two separate cat registries that record a kitten's pedigree, and a Maine Coon can be registered with one, both, or neither depending on the breeder.

Registration with either body means a breeder has recorded the kitten's parentage on file, not that the kitten is automatically healthier or better than one without papers.

Ask which registry applies, request to see the paperwork, and remember an unregistered kitten can still be a genuine purebred Maine Coon even without formal papers.
