FAQ: Turtle and Tortoise Rescue

What types of turtles and tortoises do you rescue?

I primarily rescue a variety of cold tolerant species including Russian tortoises, diamondback terrapins, red-eared sliders, cooters, musk turtles, Herman's tortoises, and box turtles.

Why do you focus on cold tolerant species?

I ensure that all rescued animals can thrive in my outdoor climate year-round. This helps in providing a natural habitat that promotes their well-being.

What is your philosophy on housing rescues?

My rescues live in naturalistic outdoor enclosures and ponds, allowing them to exhibit their natural behavior. They are also free to overwinter outdoors, which is essential for their health.

How can I help or adopt a rescued turtle or tortoise?

If you or someone you know has a turtle or tortoise in need of a new home, please feel free to reach out. I am always looking for loving homes for my rescues.

What should I consider before adopting a turtle or tortoise?

Adopting a turtle or tortoise requires a commitment to their care and proper housing. Make sure you can provide an environment that meets their climate and habitat needs.

Can I volunteer or support your rescue efforts?

Yes! I welcome support from the community, whether it's through volunteering time, donations, or spreading the word about the plight of turtles and tortoises in need.

What types of issues do the rescued turtles and tortoises face?

Many of the turtles and tortoises I rescue come from situations involving neglect, injury, or abandonment by pet owners who may no longer be able to care for them.

Is there a fee for adopting a turtle or tortoise?

There may be an adoption fee to help cover the costs of care, housing, and medical needs of the rescued animals. Please inquire for more specifics.

Where is Ed's Habitat located?

Ed's Habitat is located in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee, United States. However, the primary goal is to help turtles and tortoises regardless of location.

How long have you been rescuing turtles and tortoises?

I have been dedicated to the rescue of turtles and tortoises for over a decade, providing them with care and a safe environment.
