Listing Description
I am looking for a long-term home for Gizmo where he can get the love and attention he needs. I will be moving to the mid-west soon and moving/taking care of him will be difficult in my new living situation. He's approximately 2 1/2 years old, has a rare light grey fur coat, and is probably the friendliest chinchilla you could meet. Gizmo loves chin scratches, Vitamin C treats, and wood chew toys. After a few weeks of warming up to you, he'll be pop-corning and wall-surfing when you sit with him for outside cage time/exercise.
His CARRIER and DUST BATH and extra pellets/hay/Vitamin C cookies are INCLUDED.
1) First and foremost, I will ask that you have a cage ready for him. He has outgrown his current cage and I would like to know that the cage you have/purchase meets the requirements for a chinchilla. I recognize this is an extra purchase which is why I listed him at a reasonable price.
- The cage must be totally free from plastic and for chinchillas over 6 months at least 64 x 61 x 91cm (25" x 24" x 36") with multiple levels. The drop between levels should be no more than 40cm (16") as they can seriously hurt themselves if they fall. If you get him a wheel, it must be made from metal (not plastic or mesh which can trap paws), have a diameter of at least 14" and not have a spoke, which can catch their tail.
2) His diet includes:
- Oxbow Essentials Chinchilla Food (pellets)
- Oxbow Natural Science Vitamin C Supplement
- Kaytee All Natural Timothy Hay for Guinea Pigs, Rabbits & Other Small Animals
- (Some extra treats you can mix in his pellets) Vitakraft Chinchilla Cocktail Mixed Fruit Treat
- His favorite dust: Oxbow Animal Health POOF! Chinchilla Dust Bath, 2.5 Pound Jar
(again, I'll be giving you some leftovers of all of these)
3) Chinchillas should only ever be housed with, or come into any contact with same-sex chinchillas, not any other species. Gizmo is on his own currently and, preferably, you don't put him with another Chinchilla - I'm not sure if a change like that will be good or not for him.
I will not be giving him to just anyone. I'd like to know more about you and why you're looking to adopt! Reach out and let's chat :)
