Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is an Axolotl?
An Axolotl, also known as the Mexican salamander, is a unique amphibian that is famous for its ability to regenerate lost body parts. They are popular among aquarium enthusiasts for their interesting appearance and friendly nature.
How big does an Axolotl get?
Adult Axolotls typically grow to be between 8 to 12 inches long, depending on the species and the care they receive. Kirby, the Leusistic RLG Axolotl we’re offering, is currently 8 inches long.
What does it mean to be a Leusistic Axolotl?
A Leusistic Axolotl is a color morph that is characterized by its pale body and pinkish hue. They have light pigmentation, which makes them visually striking and popular among collectors.
How should I care for an Axolotl?
Axolotls require a suitable aquarium with clean, cool water. They thrive in a tank of at least 20 gallons, and it's best to maintain a temperature between 60-70°F (15-21°C). Proper filtration and regular water changes are essential for their health.
Why are you giving away Kirby for free?
We are moving to a rental home and are unable to take Kirby with us. We want to ensure he goes to a loving and knowledgeable home where he will be properly cared for.
What are the ideal conditions for keeping an Axolotl?
Axolotls prefer a freshwater environment with a neutral pH level. They should be kept in a spacious tank with plenty of hiding spots, such as plants or decorations. Avoid aggressive tank mates, as Axolotls are gentle creatures.
Do Axolotls make good pets?
Yes! If you are an experienced aquarium hobbyist, Axolotls can make fascinating and interactive pets. Their unique behaviors and personalities make them a great addition to any aquarium.
How should I prepare for adopting an Axolotl?
Before bringing Kirby home, ensure you have a properly set up aquarium, food suitable for Axolotls, and a basic understanding of their care requirements. It’s important to create a stable environment before introducing any new pet.
