Temperament

Highly playful: Otters love to slide, chase, wrestle, and play with toys or objects. Play is an important part of how they learn.
* Very intelligent: They are curious and quick learners but can also be mischievous and figure out how to open containers or escape enclosures.
* Energetic: They need plenty of physical activity and mental stimulation every day.
* Social: Most otters enjoy the company of other otters and communicate through chirps, whistles, growls, and body language.
* Strong swimmers: They spend a lot of time in the water and are happiest when they have access to pools or natural waterways.
* Affection varies: Otters raised by humans may become comfortable with people, but they are not truly domesticated like dogs or cats. They can still be unpredictable.
* Territorial: As they mature, they may become protective of their space and belongings.
* Strong hunting instincts: They naturally chase and catch fish, crayfish, frogs, and other small aquatic animals.
* Can nip or bite: Even playful otters have sharp teeth and powerful jaws. They may bite during excitement, play, or if they feel threatened.
* Vocal and expressive: They use a wide range of sounds to express excitement, alarm, or to communicate with other otters.
